This month’s edition is relatively long, but well organized and very revealing. In this great post by Abraham in Texas, he breaks down a case study of a 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty with multiple network failures and the driver’s side rear turn indicator light stuck “on.” Speaking of network failures, when he pulled the codes on this problem vehicle, they totaled 54. That’s a lot to sort through, which resulted in his first piece of great advice, which is to group the related DTCs to better manage them. He ended up with three main groups, but he honed in on one group immediately.
The DTC group he keyed in on immediately carried a common DTC, U0010, related to CAN Bus issues. He realized that he was dealing with a network issue and not necessarily a module issue, and that the module-related DTCs were likely a result of the comms issue. As he notes, “When you get U0010 from two independent modules, you stop diagnosing modules and start diagnosing wire.”
And, with that, he was off to the races. Based on the comments, it is fair to say that this is a relatively common issue and, hopefully, could save many of you time and hassle on a future diagnosis.
