Battery Condition and Its Impact on Over-the-Air Software Updates

Resources-computer-car

Changing it up a little this month with a quick video tip from Shop Owner magazine’s Andrew Markel. We have covered the many unexpected consequences of poor battery health many times in the past. From drivability complaints and Start-Stop system gremlins to the potential to derail a module reprogramming event and the misery of a no-start condition, poor battery health is the problem that keeps spawning more problems. Well, here’s another one to add to the list.

This one is pretty short and sweet, but good to know if your customer isn’t getting sent software updates. Like we always say, whenever there are diagnostic and/or performance issues, we suggest first establishing that the battery shows proper State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH). Of course, we’d suggest using our BA327, Digital Battery and System Tester with Printer, for this task, but either way, it is a critical first step.

If there is no issue with SoC/SoH, you can confidently move on your next diagnostic step with the peace of mind that comes with ruling out a battery issue. If there is an issue, you can address it prior to moving on, saving time, money, diagnostic dead ends and tons of hassle. After all, sometimes, it’s the basics that get out of whack, so starting with the basics, such as battery health, just makes sense.
