We worked a major tool show last weekend and had hundreds of great conversations with tool dealers who sell our products every day. As always, it was a lot of fun. One topic that recurred throughout the weekend was related to collision repair shops and their unique usage patterns for jump starters. So, we thought we’d cover that in this month’s product spotlight.
For many different reasons, it is typical to find in-process vehicles in a body shop without a battery installed in them. The prime driver of this is the fact that, if any welding is going to be performed on the vehicle, the battery is typically removed to protect it and sensitive vehicle electronics. So, at any given time, it is common to have several cars in various stages of repair that lack a starting battery. Yet, those vehicles often need to be moved from station to station as they make their way through the repair process.
Enter the lead acid jump starter. Body shops, as we heard many times last weekend, often use a jump starter as the primary starting battery in these situations, allowing them to move the vehicle a short distance over a relatively short period of time, easily and effectively. Of course, this is not the intended use for the product (the alternator output is much higher than that of a jump starter’s charger), but over a limited period of time, it is manageable. Of course, care must be taken to do it correctly, because a reverse connection or other user error would be extremely detrimental to vehicle electronics. But, it’s done successfully every day in body shops across North America. We know this from 30 years’ experience working with body shops and collision centers.
We also know that, when it comes to performing under extreme usage situations, nobody beats Booster PAC and Jump-N-Carry. Our jump starter batteries are designed specifically for the jump starting task, delivery high burst current, extending cranking duration and long service life. The industrial grade construction that enables our jump starters to deliver amazing jump starting capability is what also enables them to serve this purpose in a body shop, and do it like no one else. That’s what we heard all weekend long – words like “durable,” “powerful,” “the only one I sell,” “I’ve done that [used them as a primary battery in a body shop setting] so many times I can’t count them,” and so much more.
So, add this application to the many others that our jump starters can do. They really are the ultimate utility player of vehicle service, whether in a collision repair, mechanical repair or other service environment. When you’re looking for a versatile powerhouse for your repair shop, fleet or home garage, choose the powerhouses from Booster PAC and Jump-N-Carry.
