Resolving a Crank/No Start Cherokee

connection-underhood

Here’s another great case study by Bob in Massachusetts. This time, he was called in to help with a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was experiencing intermittent crank/no start episodes. It also had many of the typical ingredients found in these cases: vehicle was worked on by several other shops, also worked on by the vehicle owner, a lot of confusing and contradictory symptoms and a false resolution that required more digging to get to the root cause.

So, Bob dug into the fix, peeling the layers of evidence away, attacking problem components after confirming through testing that they were faulty. It is a long and winding road of diagnostic skullduggery. The great part is that he clearly and precisely documented his diagnostic strategy, the results of each step and everything it took to bring this one to a successful conclusion. He even provided a video detailing all of the steps he made with his scope (requires Diagnostic Network membership to view), essentially creating a show and tell of how he resolved this one.

This is a great case study on several levels.
