Starting-Charging Testing Using a Scope

waveform-1000px

For this month’s tech resource, our old friend Albin Moore shares his approach to assessing the entire vehicle starting-charging system in a comprehensive manner. As Albin stressed in the guest articles he contributed to our blog a few years ago, the system is interconnected and it is very difficult to assess a single component separate from the entire system. As he points out, this could result in a faulty assessment. In this post, Albin provides examples of known good starting-charging system waveforms as well as examples of problem systems and how to spot the source of trouble. As always, his analysis is clear, his diagnostic approach is great and he provides lots of visuals for review. We highly recommend checking this one out.
